As an avid fan of everything Italian I am always looking for new areas to visit on the peninsula. Sometimes your source of discovery can appear out of the air, as was the case when I first heard about the region know as Puglia. As we are often apt to do Arlene and I were watching an episode of House Hunters International and the area featured was in Italy. As the episode unfolded we were intrigue by what was featured, a town called Alberobello and a type of rural out buildings know as trulli. These stone structures with conical stone roofs were briefly shown as the couple toured the area but they made a real impression on Arlene and I.

A few years later we began to plan our next rip to Italy and thought back on that episode wondering where in Italy those delightful houses were. A bit of research and a couple of Covid delayed years later we were off to Puglia. Puglia is in the boot of Italy along the Adriatic and the Ionian Sea with its beautiful turquoise waters and historical Greek influenced coastal towns.

The beautiful baroque city of Lecce lies in the south of the region and is a must see on your visit. As you progress towards Bari you pass numerous small beach and fishing villages that are worth a quick peek. Veering inland slightly you come upon Ostuni "The White City. Heading back to the coast you'll find POLIGNANO A MARE another must see destination

We were most interested in finding accommodation in one of Trulli houses that are available for rent in the area around ALBEROBELLO, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with a heavy concentration of trulli. Our lucky find was the Masseria Cervarolo, an Agriturismo that feature 4 trulli among its available accommodations. It was an unforgettable experience to spend time there and venture out to all of the surrounding sights and tastes that Puglia has to offer.

Above,Ostuni. Below the wonderful trulli accommodations and the town of Alberobello. Known for its olive production Puligia has trees that are 2000 years old and older!
